PRINKIPO
Prinkipo is an ensemble based in New York City that blends the musical traditions of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The ensemble, led by music director Fuat Caner Tokgozol, features Tokgozol on oud, Gilbert Mansour on percussion, Ozlem Rozanitis on vocals, Sal Mamudoski on clarinet, and Bashar Farran on bass. Their repertoire showcases a rich blend of maqams, rhythms, and various musical traditions from these regions, including rebetiko, traditional folk and classical music.Their music is a collection of traditional melodies, passed down through generations and shared across Turkiye, Greece, and the Eastern Mediterranean. These songs serve as living narratives, woven into the collective heritage of these regions, forming a rich sound atlas. Each performance is marked by expressive solos and spontaneous musical conversations. As a multicultural ensemble, Prinkipo’s sound is a celebration of cultural diversity and the timeless power of music to unite people.
Recently, Prinkipo has gained recognition through captivating performances, including events like Make Music New York. The ensemble aims to bring communities together, celebrating the diversity of their musical traditions while exploring new creative paths. In 2026, the ensemble has received support from both the New York State Council on the Arts and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC). These grants will allow Prinkipo to bring multicultural music to rural communities through our Schoharie County residency while also celebrating the rich traditions of Hıdırellez with public performances and cultural programming in New York City. Prinkipo Across Schoharie County
Prinkipo Across Schoharie County is a county-wide artist residency that brings the rich musical traditions of Turkey, Greece, the Balkans, and the Eastern Mediterranean to rural communities through performances, workshops, storytelling, and artistic collaboration. Hosted in partnership with Red Fox Stables & Resort, the Schoharie County Economic Enterprise Corp., Middleburgh Library, and Sharon Springs Central School, the residency creates opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange while providing the ensemble with dedicated time to develop new repertoire inspired by the region's diverse musical heritage. We are deeply grateful to the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for its generous support of this project and for investing in artists, rural communities, and cross-cultural understanding through the arts.
