Bass Reimagined in Maqam Music

Bashar Farran is a Lebanese-born bassist, composer, and educator whose work bridges Arabic maqam music and contemporary jazz music. With a Bachelor's in Musicology (Jazz Emphasis) and a Master's in Music Education (Jazz Concentration), Farran brings a deep understanding of theory, improvisation, and maqam mastery to his compositions, performances and workshops. Since moving to New York, he has been active as a performer and as a teaching artist.  In his project Bass Reimagined in Maqam Music, Farran explores how the bass guitar can move from a supporting role to become a leading voice for melody and improvisation. Through original compositions, workshops, and performance, Bashar Farran bridges traditional Arabic maqam with contemporary jazz and improvisation.
