New York Ataturk Chorus, sponsored by Turkish and International Music Ensemble (TIME), is a group of volunteer and professional vocalists and instrumentalists, who perform Turkish and international music in the U.S.
TIME is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and make Turkish and other ethnic music accessible through concerts, professional collaborations, community outreach, and educational initiatives.
As a chorus, we sing traditional and contemporary Turkish songs, yet our repertoire employs harmony and orchestral arrangements through the addition of western instruments like the guitar, double bass, piano, accordion, and woodwinds.
As a community, we strive to build an inclusive and welcoming environment for our members, musicians and the enthusiasts. We believe in the power of music to bring all people together.
We hold auditions twice a year. Fall auditions for the 2023-24 season will be held in person at the Ripley Grier Studios located at 520 8th Ave, New York, NY on Thursday, September 21, 2023, 7:30pm-9:30pm. We will make every effort to see everyone who applies, time permitting.

What to expect at the audition
Vocalists: Prepare 30 seconds to a 1 minute of a solo song which can showcase your vocal abilities. Our music director can play from sheet music you bring if you so choose. The audition will also include basic exercises for vocal range, rhythm and pitch recognition.
Instrumentalists: You will be expected to be at least the intermediate level.
What musical knowledge or experience do you need?
No prior choral experience or formal music training is required. The ability to read music, and prior demonstrated musical interest in some form, is highly desirable.
